Withdrawal of RM1 coin: side effect

The RM1 coin has ceased to be legal tender on 7 Dec last year. Retailers and traders has since stop accepting the coin for transactions. But at least one things has been forgotten: the trolley!

The above pictures shown the sad state of "abandoned" shopping carts in one of the hypermarket in Klang Valley. Shoppers no longer need the RM1 coin to unlock the push cart, but when they finish unloading their goods, the trolleys are left next to the parking lot. This gives a very messy look to the parking basement, and sometimes to certain extents, cause inconvenience to the public.

Is the announcement of withrawal of RM1 coin from circulation came too sudden? It seems that certain parties had not too ready. The initial purpose of using the coin to unlock the "vehicle" was to educate (or rather force) the public to return the shooping cart back to the base. Are there any suggestion to put this back in order?

  • The only thing I'll like to say is, public need to be educate to be more responsible, rather than 'educate' by RM1 coin.

    It is not RM1's fault.
